Bontoc campus’ Intramural Sports Fest pushes through after postponement due to typhoon Kristine

This year’s campuswide Intramural Sports Festival with the theme, “Unleash your Inner Champion: MPSU Intramurals—Embrace the University Spirit, Celebrate Diversity, and Sportsmanship, officially kicked off with a bang at the Eyeb Open Gym. The event was originally slated for last week, October 23-25, 2024, but was postponed due to the severe tropical storm Kristine.

This year is composed of six competing teams, namely, the White Pythons (School of Healthcare Education), Green Hornets (School of Criminal Justice and Liberal Arts), Blazing Phoenix (School of Accountancy, Business, and Technology), Blue Wolves (School of Teacher Education), Crimson Knights (School of International Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism Management), and Wild Falcons (School of Advanced Education).

University President Dr. Edgar G. Cue, in his inspirational talk, motivated the participating teams to use the intramural as a platform for discipline, teamwork, self-discovery, support, and appreciation for every talent that each can bring to the stage. “You are here to give the exact definition of a real champion: a champion who is never afraid to lose, a champion who celebrates others’ victories, a champion who never quits, and a champion who plays fair, clean, and with respect,” Dr. Cue added.

In addition, the Director for Bontoc Campus, Dr. Arel B. Sia-ed, encouraged the teams to embrace the spirit of teamwork and respect and foster a spirit of camaraderie. “May this Intramural unleash your inner champions, allow us to celebrate friendship and unity, and make memorable moments together,” she added.

The Intramural, which features competitions in ball games, athletics, board games, racket sports, e-sports, throwing games, quiz bee, Indigenous sports, and dance sports, will run until 30 October 2024.
