In an effort to support students in one of their most challenging subjects, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), in collaboration with the Mathematics Society, recently organized a tutorial program to Math related subjects. The initiative aims to provide students with a clearer understanding of mathematical concepts and to equip them with practical skills applicable to real-world situations.
The program drew enthusiastic participation from students seeking guidance on mathematical topics, particularly those who find the subject daunting or are looking to improve their academic performance. Designed as a series of tutorials, the sessions cover topics ranging from basic arithmetic and algebra to more complex ideas like statistics, probability, and mathematical reasoning, all within a real-world context.
The tutorial sessions are led by senior Mathematics Society members and faculty advisors, who designed the program with a student-centered approach. Sessions include interactive exercises, problem-solving activities, and Q&A portions that encourage active participation and build students’ confidence in handling mathematical problems. The tutors use real-life examples and applications to explain concepts, helping students see the relevance of mathematics beyond the classroom.
MPSPC SSG President highlighted the importance of the initiative, saying, “Math can be intimidating for many students, but with the right guidance, it becomes an empowering tool. We wanted to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring ideas without fear of judgment. Through this partnership with the Mathematics Society, we hope to build their confidence and improve their academic experience.”
The Mathematics Society President further added, “Our goal is to make math enjoyable and accessible. By breaking down complex concepts into simpler ideas, we hope students can overcome any anxiety about math and discover its practical applications in daily life.”
Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Many students shared that the tutorials helped them gain new perspectives on mathematics and improved their understanding of the subject. Some expressed appreciation for the approachable teaching methods, which made difficult topics more understandable and engaging.
The MPSPC SSG and Mathematics Society’s tutorial program underscores the college’s dedication to student success by addressing common academic challenges with creative and supportive strategies. This collaboration has also strengthened bonds within the academic community, as students from different backgrounds and skill levels come together to help one another succeed.
Following the success of the program, the SSG and Mathematics Society plan to make tutorials a regular offering, with the hope of reaching even more students and continuing to promote a culture of academic support, encouragement, and success.
