Breastfeeding and Child-Minding Room of Mountain Province State University; A Safe, Supportive Space for Student and Staff Parents

In line with its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly environment, Mountain Province State University (MPSU) proudly inaugurated its first-ever breastfeeding and child-minding room on October 7, 2023. This dedicated space not only reflects MPSU’s values of gender equality and inclusivity but also highlights the university’s proactive support for students and employees who are parents. Recognizing the unique challenges student-parents face balancing academic responsibilities and employees managing professional duties alongside parenting, this initiative provides a much-needed resource to ease their daily lives on campus.

The establishment of the breastfeeding and child-minding room aligns with national mandates, such as the Philippines’ Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 (RA 10028), which calls for lactation facilities in public institutions. The facility demonstrates its dedication to compliance with this law and to creating a nurturing campus environment that supports the well-being of all students, employees, and stakeholders. Through this initiative, MPSU reaffirms its commitment to breaking down barriers to education and employment, particularly for those with family care responsibilities, making MPSU a more inclusive and accommodating institution for all.

Located on the second floor of the University’s Administration Building, the facility provides a secure, private, and comfortable environment designed to meet the needs of breastfeeding mothers and caretakers with young children. This facility is free to all employees, students, and guests of the institution, ensuring that everyone can access this supportive resource without any fees or financial barriers. By establishing this dedicated space, the University reaffirms its commitment to a supportive and inclusive campus where every member feels empowered to balance family and personal responsibilities within a welcoming academic community.
