Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Facilitates Collaboration for Police Transformation and Development

In a significant stride towards fostering collaboration between the academic and law enforcement sectors, the first Regular Meeting of the Provincial Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (MPPPO-PAGPTD) took place on February 10, 2022, at Pearl Café in Bontoc, Mountain Province. Mr. Ben S. Marrero, Jr., a faculty member of the Criminology Department of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College-Bontoc Campus, emerged as a key representative of the academic sector in this advisory group.

The meeting served as a platform for constructive discussions on the intersection of academic expertise and law enforcement needs. Mr. Marrero, leveraging his experience and knowledge in the field, proposed a collaborative effort between the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office (MPPPO) and MPSPC. This collaboration, as suggested by Mr. Marrero, aims to conduct public safety advocacy and facilitate the sharing of resources through a memorandum of agreement.

The proposal underscored the potential synergies between academia and law enforcement in addressing community safety concerns. Recognizing the value of such collaboration, the suggestion made by Mr. Marrero was noted by the secretariat, and it garnered unanimous agreement from all members present at the meeting.

The proposed collaboration is envisioned to contribute to the objectives of the PNP P.A.T.R.O.L PLAN 2030, focusing on enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement personnel and promoting a safer environment for the community. By leveraging the academic resources and expertise of MPSPC, the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office aims to strengthen its public safety initiatives and outreach.

The memorandum of agreement, once formalized, is expected to serve as a blueprint for joint activities, resource-sharing mechanisms, and collaborative projects between MPPPO and MPSPC. This collaborative effort aligns with the broader goals of the advisory group, emphasizing the importance of multi-sectoral cooperation in advancing police transformation and development.

Mr. Marrero expressed his optimism about the collaboration, highlighting the potential impact of harnessing academic insights for practical law enforcement applications. He emphasized the role of education in shaping effective public safety strategies and commended the proactive approach of both MPSPC and MPPPO in working towards a safer and more secure community.

As Mountain Province State Polytechnic College is leading in bridging the gap between academia and law enforcement, the collaborative initiative marks a milestone in the journey toward comprehensive community safety. The success of this partnership is anticipated not only to benefit the PNP personnel but also to contribute significantly to the overall well-being of the communities within the province.
