Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Takes Active Role in Advancing Regional Science and Technology Initiatives

In a significant step towards enhancing the regional landscape of science and technology initiatives, Mountain Province State Polytechnic College’s Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, Epipahania B. Magwilang, attended the special meeting convened by the Regional Research and Development Coordinating Council (RRDCC). The meeting utilized a blended platform with a face-to-face base in Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Dr. Magwilang, together with other members joined virtually via Zoom. Vice President Epiphania B. Magwilang’s active participation in the technical working group demonstrates Mountain Province State Polytechnic College’s commitment to advancing regional science and technology initiatives.

One of the major highlights of the meeting was the approval of the harmonized symposium manual of operations, which included the format of the Consortium Member Institutions (CMI) quarterly accomplishment report and the CorCAARRD policy brief guidelines and format.

The approved manual of operations is a product of a meeting-workshop attended by representatives from different Research and Development Institutions (RDIs) of the Consortium including MPSPC. The provisions of the manual was synchronized with the Annual Agency In-House Reviews conducted by the RDIs.

Meanwhile, Consortium Director Dr. Ruth S. Batani outlined the CMI quarterly accomplishment report format, aligning it with the previous approval of the RRDCC. Dr. Batani explained that the reports submitted would be integrated into the annual report (Aduyon Report) submitted to PCAARRD.

Addressing the need for a standardized policy brief to inform policymakers and other stakeholders, a policy brief format and guideline were presented and approved. This format, modified from the PCAARRD policy brief with adjustments to capture the local context, integrated the BSU-SAFE project policy brief and the BSU-ISRD format. The Regional Technical Working Group and the RRDCC had earlier approved the need for such a guidance document in their April 7-8, 2022 meetings.

Lastly, the guidelines for the Consortium policy brief were presented, outlining the scope and scheme to be followed by interested researchers/authors. The approved format, with minor comments and suggestions, will follow the PCAARRD format endorsed by the CorCAARRD RTWG and approved by the RRDCC on April 7-8, 2022.

In the absence of RRDCC chair and BSU president Dr. Felipe Salaing Comila, Dr. Eduardo T. Bagtang, RRDCC 1st vice-chair and KSU president, along with Ms. Helen A. Maddumba, Center Chief of DENR-ERDB-WWRRDEC, presided over the meeting, ensuring the smooth approval of all agenda items.
