Paracelis, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) recently hosted a two-day training on coffee plantation establishment, care, and maintenance in collaboration with ACDI/VOCA. The event, held at the MPSPC-Paracelis Campus on March 2-3, 2023, aimed to empower local farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to boost coffee production in the area.
The training featured a lineup of expert speakers, including Dr. Alver W. Claudio, Director of the Montañosa Coffee Center, who provided a historical overview of the coffee industry. Mr. Domingo L. Lawagey, MPSPC Coffee Nursery Coordinator, delved into the topics of quality coffee production and propagation techniques. Mr. Edgar Pandosen from ACDI/VOCA discussed coffee nursery establishment and plantation management. Additionally, Mr. Ricarte Guitelen, President of the Western Red Berry Pickers Association, shared his inspiring success story in coffee production and processing.
The training was well-attended by local farmers from Paracelis and students from the MPSPC Paracelis Campus. By equipping participants with practical knowledge and hands-on experience, the event is expected to contribute to the growth of the local coffee industry and improve the livelihoods of farmers here in the province.
