Preserving Legacy: MPSPC’s Advocacy for Protecting Traditional Cultural Expressions in Mountain Province

Ms. Luzlyn M. Agwilang and Dr. Annie Grail F. Ekid of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) presented the recommendation form their research study titled “Perspective and Core Justifications on the Protection of Traditional Cultural Expression of Mountain Province” to Vice Governor Francis O. Tauli. This study emphasizes the significance of preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage amidst modern influences that threaten the continuity and authenticity of its traditional expressions.

Mountain Province is renowned for its cultural diversity and unique traditional expressions, including indigenous music, dances, textile weaving, and rituals. These expressions not only embody the identity of its indigenous communities but also serve as living links to their historical roots. Recognizing the growing threats posed by globalization, cultural commercialization, and changing generational attitudes, MPSPC initiated this research to highlight both the need and the rationale for robust protection measures.

The presentation of this research to the provincial office is a critical step toward the protection of Mountain Province’s cultural heritage. The recommendations provided by MPSPC serve as a roadmap for provincial leaders and policymakers to take proactive measures that will preserve the unique cultural identity of Mountain Province while respecting the rights and contributions of its indigenous communities. Through continued collaboration and commitment, Mountain Province can ensure that its traditional cultural expressions remain a vital part of its identity and heritage, enriching future generations.
