Self-Awareness Activity at MPSPC Bontoc Transforms Nursing Students’ Perspectives

MPSPC Bontoc, June 1, 2022 – A transformative self-awareness activity, aimed at enhancing the personalities of future nurses was conducted on May 30 to June 1, 2022 at the College Auditorium. The activity catered to third year BS Nursing students.

On the first day of the activity, Ms. Catherine T. Chapeyen outlined the purpose and objectives of the activity, setting the stage for an insightful journey. Ms. Annie Lourie Paredes introduced the first speaker, Fr. Marcial Lloyd C. Castaneda, a multi-talented priest, and founder of the Broken Guitar Project. Fr. Castaneda delved on the concept of healthy emotions. He presented the “5 H” meaning: Head, Heart, Hands, Health, and Home.

Before the day ended, the speaker and the facilitators of the activity acknowledged the students’ active participation and commitment to self-improvement.

The second day of self-discovery started with an opening prayer by Mr. Gian Cadwising. The second speaker, Mam Claire Agyapas, the head of the Guidance and Counselling Office of the College, addressed the importance of understanding one’s personality.

Ms. Cristine Felimon, a staff member of the Guidance Office, distributed the results of personality tests to the students, providing valuable insights and guidance on managing their personalities effectively.

To end the activity, Dr. Cristie Lynne Codod, the executive dean of the Bontoc campus, gave the closing remarks. She encapsulated the essence of nursing in the acronym “NURSE,” urging students to nurture and never give up, understand their usefulness, realize themselves, and embrace challenges along their professional journey.

The self-awareness activity proved to be a significant step in shaping the future of these nursing students, fostering personal growth and a deeper understanding of their roles as compassionate healthcare professionals.

The activity was facilitated by Nursing Faculty including Dean Catherine T. Chapeyen, Cyprene LM Laguiwed, Phoenix Tayni, Annie Lourie Y.Paredes, and Alfred O.Fomocao Jr. It was funded from the RLE fee.
