Strengthening Peace and Justice Through Technology: IT Training for PNP to Address VAWC and Trafficking

In an innovative move to prevent and combat violence and abuse against women and children, the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit, in collaboration with the IT department of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), conducted a training-workshop on Empowering Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (PCAT – VAWC) through Technology: An Interactive Training on Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Material Creation yesterday, December 13, 2023 at the MPSPC Student Center, Bontoc, Mountain Province.

The training aimed to improve the capacity of PCAT-VAWC members to create and disseminate crucial IEC materials that will amplify their voices and extend the reach of their advocacy efforts in their organizations and workplaces.

Furthermore, the activity resonates with the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which seek to achieve gender equality and empower all women with the necessary skills to communicate their platforms, aligned with the College’s mission to promote the integration of technology in education for the holistic development of individuals and communities. This also comes as part of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women and children.

In his message, College president Dr. Edgar G. Cue, represented by Reynaldo P. Gayo, Jr., Chief-of-Staff, challenged the participants to absorb and adopt how the integration of technology aids in social welfare and advocacy work.

“I encourage you to bring your creativity to this cause. Imagine our community where awareness spreads like wildfire, where the voices of the less fortunate and oppressed are being heard through technology as a medium of interaction,” Dr. Cue added.

This training further equipped the PNP personnel to communicate effectively, raise awareness, and engage the community in preventing VAWC and trafficking, fostering stronger, more inclusive institutions that can address complex social issues through accessible and impactful digital content, promoting a peaceful and just society where individuals are informed, vigilant, and empowered.
